About CGCPI

Cochener Garvey Capital Partners, Inc. (CGCPI) is a privately owned holding and operating company based in Wichita, Kansas. CGCPI owns and oversees a diverse portfolio of operating businesses and investments across multiple industries, including hotel and real estate development, building materials manufacturing, healthcare software, and information technology services.

As CGCPI continues to expand its hotel and real estate investments, we are seeking an accomplished executive to join our Board of Directors and bring meaningful hospitality and/or commercial real estate experience.

This individual will contribute to CGCPI's overall governance and strategic direction while providing particular insight into hotel investment, development, operations, asset management, and real estate opportunities.

The Opportunity

As a member of the CGCPI Board of Directors, this individual will work alongside fellow Board members and company leadership to provide strategic guidance, business insight, and oversight across CGCPI and its portfolio companies.

  • Work collaboratively within the Board of Directors to help guide the mission, purpose, strategy, and long-term direction of CGCPI.
  • Provide strategic and organizational insight through active participation in quarterly Board meetings and periodic discussions with CGCPI leadership and other Board members.
  • Actively prepare for and participate in quarterly Board meetings and ad hoc meetings as requested.
  • Evaluate the organizational and financial performance of CGCPI and its individual portfolio companies and provide insight regarding opportunities for growth and improvement.
  • Bring hotel and real estate expertise to discussions involving existing investments, new developments, acquisitions, and other strategic opportunities.
  • Provide perspective on areas such as hotel development, site and market evaluation, project feasibility, investment returns, financing and capital structures, asset management, hotel operations, brand and management relationships, and real estate investment strategy, as applicable.
  • Help assess potential hotel and real estate opportunities, including key assumptions, risks, expected returns, and long-term value creation.
  • Provide expertise and counsel regarding broader business opportunities, investments, and M&A activity across the CGCPI portfolio.
  • Stay abreast of the organization's financial position through the review and interpretation of financial statements, operating results, forecasts, and other reports.
  • Serve as a strategic sounding board and resource to company leadership, bringing an independent perspective and a willingness to constructively challenge assumptions and recommendations.
  • Act as an advocate and ambassador for the organization and, when appropriate, leverage professional connections, networks, and resources to advance the organization's goals.
  • Serve as a statutory member of the Board of Directors with the legal rights and fiduciary duties associated with Board service.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be a current or former senior executive with significant leadership experience and a strong background in hotel/hospitality and/or commercial real estate investment and development.

  • 20+ years of progressive business and executive leadership experience.
  • Current or former C-suite, senior executive, principal, partner, or comparable leadership experience.
  • Significant experience in one or more areas of hotel ownership, hotel development, hospitality operations, real estate development, real estate investment, acquisitions, asset management, or hospitality finance.
  • Experience evaluating hotel and/or real estate investments, including development opportunities, acquisitions, capital requirements, financial returns, and investment risk.
  • Strong financial and business acumen with the ability to analyze operating results, investment opportunities, financial projections, and strategic alternatives.
  • Broad business perspective and the ability to contribute beyond a single area of expertise to a diverse portfolio of companies and industries.
  • Ability to identify strategic opportunities and appropriately challenge the assumptions underlying potential investments and business decisions.
  • A collaborative style coupled with the ability and willingness to challenge and be challenged in opinions and recommendations.
  • Intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, and a commitment to continued learning.
  • Demonstrated history of mentoring and developing business leaders.
  • Strong professional reputation and network within the hospitality and/or real estate industry.
  • Previous corporate Board of Directors experience preferred.
  • Experience working with a family office, private investment company, private equity organization, or privately held business is preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to travel for quarterly Board meetings.

Board Commitment

Quarterly Board meetings are held in person at varied locations. Occasional virtual meetings may be held in addition to regularly scheduled quarterly meetings.

The anticipated time commitment is approximately 3–4 days per quarter, including meeting preparation, Board meeting attendance, and travel time.

About the Ideal Board Member

Beyond industry experience, CGCPI is seeking someone who enjoys engaging with business leaders and evaluating opportunities from an owner and investor perspective. The successful candidate will bring deep expertise without being limited by it—someone who can provide valuable insight into our growing hotel and real estate portfolio while also contributing thoughtfully to the strategy and performance of CGCPI’s other businesses.

What We Offer

  • The opportunity to lead a diversified, privately held company through its next growth chapter.
  • Direct collaboration with and accountability to the Board of Directors.
  • Competitive BOD member compensation.
  • Family office culture that fosters values and performance.

Equal Opportunity

CGCPI is committed to providing equal opportunity in employment for all people without regard to race, color, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, gender identity, national origin, physical or mental disability, military service, or any other attribute or characteristic protected by law.
